The Almost Lizard Book Launch!

BLURB (Amazon)
Today is Daniel Lizar's twenty-first birthday and he has just completed his autobiography. Now, he plans on killing himself, leaving behind possibly the longest suicide note ever committed to paper.
Daniel creates soap operas in his head - a game that he plays on his paper-round. Rather than a phase, this is just the beginning of a fantasy that becomes more and more elaborate as the people around Daniel become his unwitting co-stars.
Daniel begins to realise that, in life, you cannot write all of the scripts, there is no-one there to shout cut or hit rewind and, inevitably, all manipulations have their repercussions.

Join Kirsty (@Gazpachodragon) and author James Higgerson (@JimStripe) for a book launch, Question and Answer session and signing next weekend.

Though The Almost Lizard won't be available for sale on the day at Brewbar, there are a few copies available at Waterstones Leeds!

Venue: Brewbar
Dates: Sunday, 5th of May 2013
Times: 2pm

The Count of Monte Cristo is coming to Leeds!

Dates: 22 - 23 May
Box Office: 0113 224 3801

From the press release, we learn the following:

The Count of Monte Cristo is a tale very few theatre producers have dared to tackle in recent times. Clocking in at more than 1000 pages, Alexandre Dumas’ epic 1844 original is on average five times the length of contemporaneous fictions.
Not known to shy away from a challenge, Thunder Road Theatre Company found the adventure of turning such a complex novel into 90 minutes of high-octane theatre too tempting to resist.
When jealous minds conspire against him, young sailor Edmond Dàntes is sentenced to a lifetime of imprisonment. Helpless and isolated within the infamous Château D’if fortress, a chance escape quenches Dàntes’ thirst for vengeance. The hero becomes the villain - and the villain will have his
revenge.

After achieving sell-out success and receiving multiple award nominations for its critically acclaimed production Hyde – an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde - Thunder Road
brings fresh verve and physicality to Dumas’s swashbuckling adventure.

Produced and developed alongside Harrogate Theatre, adapted by Polis Loizou and directed by Terence Mann, The Count Of Monte Cristo premieres at Harrogate Studio Theatre from Wednesday 1 to Saturday 11 May, before embarking on a trans-Pennines tour.

Tickets for this event can be booked securely online at Harrogate Theatre or through the Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116.

Check out this amazing theatrical extravaganza!

Idle Motion are bring Borges and I to the Holbeck Underground Ballroom on Friday the 15th of March.

A stunning piece of visual theatre that explores our relationship with books, reading and the imagination.

Fringe Sell-Out Idle Motion make their debut at the Holbeck Underground Ballroom with their Total Theatre award nominated show “Borges and I”. This stunning piece of visual theatre explores the life of the writer Jorge Luis Borges, who questioned and translated the world around him. Through the use of multimedia and his evocative stories Idle Motion bring forth images of labyrinths, tigers and a universe of libraries.Meanwhile, a couple meet a haphazard and ill-conceived book group, brought together through their shared love of literature. Using imaginative staging and inventive storytellrng Idle Motion draw parallels between Borges’ life, his work and his readership, revealing a vivid portrait of a man on the brink of blindness.

This looks so interesting and I believe that it's a Pay What You Decide event - so you choose your own ticket price AFTER you've seen the show!

There are only a limited number of tickets available for this, so email as soon as to secure yours! boxoffice@slunglow.org
